From Avigdor Lieberman
(03-02-2009) Lieberman at Herzliya Conference: Loyalty is a Basic Legal Principle in the West - It's Time for Israel to Adopt It Too
At the Herzliya Interdisciplinary Center, Avigdor Lieberman discussed the reasons for Israel Beytenu’s success in the polls.
“The threat from within is more dangerous than the threat from outside.  We did not seek the outlawing of Balad because was are anti-leftwing or anti-Arab.  We sought to ban balad because it is a terrorist movement.  Balad members and their supporters organized rallies in support of terror while our soldiers were fighting on the frontlines.
“Israel Beytenu’s requirement of loyalty is standard in other western countries.  In 2003, Spain outlawed the Basque party.  Only a week ago, the Spanish police recommended the banning of two more parties.  We would like to adopt the Spanish law here in Israel.  These are the accepted norms in the USA, the European Union and the rest of the western world.
“We ask for loyalty from every citizen of Israel.  Every citizen has equal rights and equal obligations.  This includes the obligation to serve in the army or in the national service, loyalty to the flag and anthem.  Loyalty must find expression in deeds not in mere declarations.  It is unacceptable that a young man who waves the Hamas flag and refuses to serve in the national service should benefit from reverse discrimination in an institution of higher education, for example.
“Moreover, the State must give more to those who contribute more.  We must change today’s situation in which there is a foolish minority that works, pays taxes and serves in the army.  People who contribute more should get more,” declared Lieberman
