Aharonovitch: Palestinian UN Bid Big Mistake
Published on: December 3, 2012Minister of Internal Security Yitzchak Aharonovitch spoke at a weekend culture event at the Southern Sharon Municipality. Among other topics, he discussed last week’s successful Palestinian bid for UN recognition as a non-member state.
Minister Aharonovitch said, “Abu Mazen made a big mistake when he initiated this process. In the end, we’re going to have to make peace between Jerusalem and Ramallah. But the Palestinian Authority Chair delivered an address full of incitement. How can we reach a peace settlement with someone who preaches such hatred?”
Regarding the governmental decision to renew building beyond the 1949 armistice lines and construct 3,000 residential units, the Minister said, “Whoever breaks an agreement must be aware that there may be repercussions. There is a national consensus on a unified Jerusalem and on the settlement blocs.”
