Landau: Palestinians not Interersted in Agreement
Published on: December 24, 2012The Energy and Water Minister, Dr. Uzi Landau spoke yesterday before students in pre-army preparatory colleges as part of a panel discussion on foreign policy and security hosted by the Menachem Begin Heritage Center.
Minister Landau spoke about the genuine threat hovering over the State of Israel and said that those who endanger Israel do not necessarily come from beyond its borders but rather come from the Jewish nation. “The greatest threat Israel faces comes from those among the Jewish people who question Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish and democratic state in the Land of Israel,” said Landau.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Landau said, “There is no chance for an agreement with the Palestinians – not because we do not want to speak, but rather because we don’t have anyone to speak to on the Palestinian side.”
Regarding a Palestinian state, the minister said, “There is no chance for a Palestinian state to come into existence in the near future.”
Minister Landau concluded his remarks, “Ben Gurion declared independence despite threats of sanctions by the Americans. And when they didn’t want us to build in Jerusalem, he built the Knesset. We are not building here out of security considerations but because this is our city!”
