MK Shimon Ohayon Guest of Honor at Launch of Translation of Sir Martin Gilbert’s Book on Jews Under Islam
Published on: June 18, 2013MK Shimon Ohayon was the guest of honor at the launch of the Hebrew translation of famed British historian Sir Martin Gilbert’s best-selling book “In Ishmael’s House: A History of Jews in Muslim Lands”. MK Ohayon, born in Morocco, is the Chairman of the Knesset Caucus on the Rights of Jewish Refugees from Arab Lands and has submitted a law designating a date in the Israeli calendar devoted to commemorating the Jewish refugees.
Also in attendance at the launch were, the British Ambassador to Israel, Matthew Gould, Mrs. Gail Asper, The Asper Foundation, Mrs. Esther Gilbert (Sir Martin’s wife) and Levana Zamir the translator of the book into Hebrew.
MK Ohayon said during his address at the event that “The story of the 850,000 Jewish refugees from Arab lands is a great antidote to those who talk about allowing a Palestinian “right of return” to the State of Israel.”
