Opposing Arab Recruitment Contributes to Racism
Published on: July 22, 2012Speaking in Rechovot on Saturday, MK Faina Kirshenbaum said that outgoing chair of the Opposition, MK Shelly Yechimovitch’s opposition to Arab-Israelis’ sharing of the national burden to serve the country contributes to continued discrimination. Yisrael Beytenu is working to integrate the Arab sector into society and doing its fair share of national service of some kind is an obvious part of the process.
Kirshenbaum said that the Plesner Committee’s remit was not only the recruitment of the Ultra-Orthodox but rather the equal sharing of the burden of service among all members of the Israeli public – including Arab-Israelis. Yisrael Beytenu has demonstrated again this week that it is working for the entire citizenry – and will not stop until we legislate equal service for all Israelis.
Referring to the social protest of this year, MK Kirshenbaum noted that this year’s protests seemed very politicized. “The case is the same this year as last – no specific campaigns for specific policies just an amorphous protest aimed at toppling the government,” she said.
What we should be focusing on, and what Yisrael Beytenu has been working toward, is making it possible for more and more people to afford to own a home. We need to lower the price of land, put our more tenders, and help people maximize their earning potential. These are things that Yisrael Beyentu has been working on and making progress toward for years. We’re not there yet, but I believe that with dedication, we will be soon,” concluded MK Kirshenbaum
